The six books of IQRA’ were specifically developed by Ustaz Haji As’ad Humam as an aid to learn to recite the Quran in a short space of time. The IQRA’ method emphasises the phonetic method of teaching. These books were edited by the Ministry of Education Malaysia and approved for use in all Primary, certain Secondary and Institutions throughout the Country. It is also used in all the ASEAN countries.
For maximum benefit from this teaching system, Please do not hasten through the lessons. Concentrate on the basics of letter recognition and correct pronunciation as per the example. At the end of book 1 there is an assessment page that should be read fluently, without hesitation and with correct pronunciation, BEFORE proceeding to Book 2.
Similarly at the end of book 2 there is an assessment page that should be read fluently, without hesitation and with correct pronunciation, BEFORE proceeding to Book 3.
By concentrating on the basics in the first 3 books of Iqra, subsequent lessons in books 4,5 and 6 will be greatly simplified and at the end of book 6 the student would be able to recite anywhere in the Quraan with Fluency and Tajweed, Insha-Allah.
The course objective of book 1 is recognition of the Alphabet and the correct pronunciation of each letter together with a vowel sound (fatha). There is an assessment at the end of the book and the student only proceeds to book 2 if completely Fluent.
The course objective of book 2 is recognising the joining of letters. Only one vowel is used and elongation of that vowel sound is introduced. Emphasis to be placed on pronunciation. Short vowels are pronounced short and long vowels are pronounced long. Students again are only to proceed to book 3 if absolutely Fluent.
The course objective of book 3 is revision of books 1&2 and introduces the other two vowel sounds (kasrah and Dhumma) and the way they are lengthened. Students again are only to proceed to book 4 if absolutely Fluent.
The course objective of book 4 is to introduce the names of the letters and the short vowels. Nunnation (Tanween) and Sukoon is also introduced and practised together with the letters of Qalqallah. Note : Pronunciation emphasis in this book as well. The evaluation of book 4 is correct pronunciation, lengthening of vowels and Qalqallah. Students again are only to proceed to book 5 if absolutely Fluent.
The course objectives of book 6 introduces more tajweed rules and waqaf rules when reciting. At this stage the student should be fully fluent to read any Juz of the Quran Correctly and Fluently. Feel free to go back to any of the other books to reinforce grammar rules and pronunciations etc.
